Government. The word alone conjures up images and emotions in people before the conversation even starts.  Whether in agreement or disagreement with their government's position on one matter or another, there is always passion involved.  While some appreciate the good and hard work done by the government on behalf of the people, others focus instead upon the one or two issues with which they do not agree and look right past the positive contributions made to our lives made by our governing bodies.  There are those who believe we would thrive better in life without such an organization to tell us what to do.  But what would things be like without an organized body to make and enforce laws and organize us?

There was a time when communities were very small and self sufficient. Order was kept without a governing body in charge.  Over time, though, as people became more advanced, population grew and spread.  Ways of thinking among each small community were very much the same.  But as the population grew and the people spread out, they began to mingle with other small communities.  The ideas of each of those small communities would have conflicted from time to time.  Thus the need for someone or something to bring the communities together with rules and laws upon which everyone could agree.  When exactly this happened, we donТt know.  There is no record of it, but we know it existed as early as Ancient Egypt.

Government provides security and order to its people, and without those things, people cannot thrive. The importance of government lies in the very root of a nation's governing party. Government enables a select group of people the ability to manage a nation under a set group of laws and regulations.
